Indispensable Quality

I have a small confession! I haven’t finished reading the second part of my book The Purpose Driven Life this month. Although I would have loved to have already completed it; the truth is that I just haven’t done it yet. The good news is that April is not over just yet! I have been kicking back and relaxing with lots of other fun items this month though! Bring on the fashion, culture, and Essence!

I have a one year subscription to the magazine from a purchase I made in February, but the silly part of it all is that I don’t recall what I bought. Either way, I am thrilled that I have been able to get these directly to my home because it makes it that much easier for me to read. So first, I have to make it my business to point out these AMAZING covers! Ava, Oprah, Renee, and the other “woke” women of today are looking absolutely stunning. This edition highlighted a lot of very powerful and inspirational women, but the one that most stood out to me was Ava Duvernay’s piece. I felt more connected to her interview than any of the others. Per the usual, I had a couple of takeaways from reading her spread and here they are:

1. Work, work, and work some more until the people I admire are admiring me and my works!

2. Learn to be fully prepared, organized, and clear about what I want and how I will achieve it.

I felt that these were obvious, advice worthy takeaways, but I believe that the more you see it, read it, hear it, the better!

Now, quickly, I have to address some of the fashion that was featured!

These earrings are giving me so much life! I LOVE a good tassel or fabric infused earring. These are so sassy! The color is perfect, don’t you agree?

Bomber jackets!!! THEY WILL NEVER DIE! I don’t care if it’s winter, summer, spring, or fall; the bomber is light and trendy enough for all seasons! And who doesn’t believe in “good vibes only?” I am sure that is all we want around us, so why not wear it?

Hope this was a fun read for you! Until next time!

XO,

Purposely Driven!

Oh yes! Book number three for 2017 is officially being completed! This particular book, The Purpose Driven Life, written by the great Rick Warren required a different reading approach! At the beginning of the book he asks the reader to read only one chapter a day. This allows you to read, learn, and internalize the information to meaningfully apply it to your daily life.

So, here’s a part one review of The Purpose Driven Life and what I’ve learned from my daily readings!

I was drawn to day six or chapter six (whichever is preferred). It’s entitled “Life is a Temporary Assignment!” This was a very eye opening and motivating portion of the book! Strangely enough, in my previous book review chapter six was my favorite too! Maybe that’s my new lucky number, who knows?

Per the usual, I never want to ruin anything for those that are interested in purchasing the book, but I totally make it my business to share my takeaways from it.

1. Life is extremely brief and it is only a temporary residence.

2. The more God gives to me, the more responsible he expects me to be. It’s like that saying, “To whom much is given, much is required.”

3. It is not about me – – focusing on just myself will never reveal my life’s true purpose.

4. Obedience unlocks understanding.

5. Genuine friendships are built on disclosure, but bitterness is the greatest barrier to friendship.

I am absolutely thrilled that I have been able to commit to something that is making me a better person to others, meanwhile nurturing my spiritual journey! It takes 40 days to make something a habit and I’m more than positive this is why Rick Warren asked his readers to read once a day over a forty day span. Be open to change, be open to learning, and lastly be open to improving yourself!

XO,

To Be Bomb Dot Com

Yay! Book number two for 2017 is officially completed . I was excited to get a copy of the beautiful Claire Sulmers book entitled The Bomb Life: My Brand. My Terms.

I was entrigued to learn her journey and see how she became the queen she is today! I’m sure most social media regulars are either huge fans of Fashion Bomb Daily or have at least heard of the site. This is Claire Summers’ site. Now knowing what it took to create this empire is pretty mind blowing!

The most influential chapter for me of The Bomb Life was chapter six! This chapter was entitled the Business of Blogging and it was an eye opener.

Of course, I won’t ruin anything for those that are interested in grabbing this book, but I totally want to share my takeaways from it.

  1. At any given point in time, be prepared to shine!
  2. Rejection is a part of life! Sometimes I will hear no more than yes but realize that it only takes one yes to make something happen!
  3. Create good content that your niche wants to hear about.
  4. Never, ever sell myself or my platform short
  5. Network, network, and network some more.
  6. Keep introducing yourself until they have reasons to remember ME/AKCESS!

I really enjoyed every page of this book. Claire was very open about her struggles and her daily victories that made her who she has become! Fashion Bomb is an amazing brand and it gives such encouragement to me to continue building and working at my dreams!

Fashion & Personal Branding Q&A

Thank goodness for social media! Instagram’s search page isn’t just for fashion, gossip, and celebrities. Instagram was the only way I was able to learn about a seminar for fashion and personal branding hosted by Richland County Public Library. The panel consisted of successful bloggers all from the capital city. When I heard of this, I immediately had to rearrange my Saturday plans for this 3-4 pm slot. I had to be available for this! I am very thankful that I was able to attend and meet such talented individuals.

I wanted to pretty much give a brief synopsis of my takeaways as requested by a few of my awesome blogger and social media followers! I aim to give the people what they want! *wink*

So, from my one hour session with the oh so dapper Kelvin, fashion goddess Julianna, & makeup junkie Ebony, I was able to learn the following:

1. BRANDING IS KEY!!!
2. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there!

3. Be open to connecting to with people!

4. What my readers want + your thoughts and content = YOUR BRAND!

5. Hashtags are LIFE!! Only use 29 hashtags!! Minimum 15!

6. Be consistent with your social media sites such as IG and FB as well as on your actual blog because social media could be sold & vanish tomorrow! Have multiple outlets for your content!

These are all very helpful tips for beginning bloggers, but can go a long way with seasoned bloggers as well! I hope that those that requested this brief post are excited and are reassured that all of your hard work will absolutely pay off!

[ Our ideas either waste time or they allow us to use our time wisely, you choose! ]

I really loved the fact that this was a requested post. I am always listening and ready to give my viewers AKCESS to what they need and want! Keep them coming! Whether it’s on social media, my contact form here, or an email (Kristen@Akcess.me)….I’m excited to hear from you!

Being CIVIL!

If you recall, one of my New Year resolutions was to indulge in more books! Based on my schedule I set the “lofty” goal of one book a month!

So let’s jump right into my first read of January:

I was so thrilled to finally get my hands on this amazing gem by THE Karen Civil entitled Be You & Live Civil. (Sounds like something that’s pretty simple and easy to do right?) Through her social media accounts, you would think that she’s been that way her entire life. She always hosts the most lavish events with the most stylish outfits. But in reading this book, I have been able to see that she is indeed human. She shared her many adversities. She shared how she was able to overcome them. Step by step, she showed readers how she became the head strong women we see.

I don’t want to ruin anything for those that are interested in reading this book, so I will not spill too many of the beans here. I will, however, say that this is absolutely a great read for men and women, alike, that are aiming to find their passion. Everyone has been issued a gift, you just have to discover what it is. You have to:

  •  Ask for guidance
  • Discover your gift
  • Build on it
  • Conquer your dreams

I was able to to gain knowledge from Be You & Live Civil that can be applied to life! Of course I want to share with you guys what I learned. Here are a few takeaways…

  1. Believe in myself & brand the same way I believe in GOD
  2. ALWAYS progress and try my hardest to not regress
  3. NEVER put a limit on my success

I hope that this inspires you to want to be the best version of you! This book absolutely provoked my soul. It had me yearning for more. It ignited my passion for AKCESS & its followers. So, let’s make things shake and allow our brands to SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES!!

XO,

New Year, New Who?

Happy, happy New Year to you and your loved ones! I still can’t believe that it is really 2017! The year 2016 literally flew by and yet still found the time to be pretty amazing! I mean seriously, 2016 brought about so many good times, things and memories that I am going to find it pretty hard to top. Well, I take that back….It won’t be hard to top but it just makes my expectations for 2017 that much greater!
2016 was jam-packed with blessings, lessons, memories, laughter and so on! I quickly want to reflect on one of my biggest accomplishments of 2016! I know that you probably already know what I’m going to say!  My greatest and most rewarding accomplishment in 2016 absolutely is AKCESS! To start from being only a small thought in my mind to becoming one of the projects that I am 1000% passionate for is so major for me. I remember, leading up to my launching date, not even a month ago, being so anxious! My emotions were running in every direction. It was out of control! Thankfully, I had the support system needed to say, “Kristen, JUST GO FOR IT!” Just talking about it gives me chills now! Hands down, this is one of the greatest things I’ve done!

I am welcoming 2017 with open arms!

For the past two or so years, my husband and I have brought in the new year socializing with close friends and family. Nothing changed this year! We decided to be very low key and stay in with the family. It was important to be with them as the entire family was able to receive such wonderful news recently (it’s a secret, shhhh)!

• • • • •

With this being day 1 of 2017, I want to create a new tradition for myself – – and no, you are never too old to begin tradition – – I want to actually write my new year resolutions down, and here’s the tricky part: STICK TO WHAT I WRITE DOWN! I’m sure we have all done this. We say and talk and go on and on about changing this, doing more of that, being apart of this, but we never ever stick to it. Hash: it is time for a change! Here are my resolutions!

My 2017 Resolutions
1. READ more
2. Be a better DOER
3. Consistently stick to my gym regimen
4. Be a better GIVER
5. Be PATIENT

I am totally committed to this list of change and can only imagine what my thoughts will be at the end of this year! I am absolutely prepared to TAKE ON 2017!

What are you taking the time to work on or improve in the new year?  Big or small, I want to encourage you to stick to it and make it happen because small changes lead to greater impact! So, in the words of Oprah Winfrey, “Cheers to a new year for us to get it right!

Christmas Cheer

Can you believe that it is Christmas Day?  I am still blown away at how fast this year has gone by!  Most times we only want to talk about what we are thankful for and how grateful we are during the Thanksgiving holiday but I really believe that it should be an every day type of thankfulness.  We just “present it” or “post about it” when it is holiday time.  And the crazy part is….I am guilty of it.  A small take away from this is to share and celebrate life’s small and big blessings year-round and not just during holiday season! Soon you (we) will love celebrating your (our) own & others victories!

So to all – – my readers, the people that are following, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU reading this right now, MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I hope that you got all of the items your heart desired but I also pray that you were able to be with your loved ones and share some Christmas Cheer! Here are a few photos from Christmas Eve (day) and  “cozies by the Christmas tree” (night) for you to see!

chapter TWENTY-SEVEN

Throughout my entire life of birthdays and celebrations, this very moment in time absolutely has to be the best one yet. It feels completely different from the rest. I am allowing myself, as well as my readers, the opportunity to be open, honest, and viewed in raw form.

As the book of life has been amazingly and abundantly good to me, I can feel in my spirit that this next chapter entitled “27” will allow so much growth to take place.  I have never felt this type of emotion on my birthday so this is sort of different and I am figuring out the best way to approach it.  I am so grateful and thankful for all of the minor and major hardships and doubts that took place in chapter 26.  You may be asking yourself how or even why would someone be happy that they experienced rough times?  I am so thankful for those times because if I had not experienced them, I wouldn’t be doing, pursuing, nor acting on something that was once just an idea or dream to me.  Pushing the envelope & beating the odds is something that I am willing to  do more so than I ever have in my life.  I want to learn to not live for others but to live for my TRUE self and I am envisioning so many good things to come in life.  James 1:6 tells us, “but when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”  This speaks volumes and mirrors the strength and feeling I envision to take place in this chapter.  I acquire the belief and am refusing to doubt anything.
